A pair of very rare iron bracelets from the 1820s.

Iron jewelry is in itself very rare to come across. This tradition stems from many of the great wars that ravaged Europe throughout the 1700s. The better bourgeoisie would melt down their precious gold and silver jewelry and then have copies made of iron to show support for the war. These could be engraved with text along the lines of "I have given gold for iron"

The tradition of wedding bracelets stems from the early 1800s. Tradition dictated that the bride would wear one bracelet during the engagement and could wear both after the marriage was concluded and the wedding ceremony took place.

The fact that these two bracelets have not been separated over the past 200 years is simply amazing.

They are made of iron and set with polished iron stones that sparkle almost like marcasites.

A few of these are missing, but it's not something you really notice.

The set is in good condition.
