Hvorfor elsker vi glas?

Why do we love glass?

By now, my love for porcelain and glass has a long history behind it. I have spent most of my adult life dealing with these very things, and this is also evident in my small business in Store Kongensgade.

My fascination with special drinking glasses is actually not a rarity. There are many of us who love glass. But how can that actually be? What is it that makes the material have a power of fascination that can make even the least materialistically oriented person spend a lot of money on a glass for schnapps, water or wine?

We love glass because as humans we are drawn to beautiful things. Whether it is a painting, an idyllic landscape, a carafe or something else, we can sometimes feel physically moved by looking at something that is beautiful. This also explains why you have a hard time keeping to yourself when you visit a business like mine. Recently, researchers have carried out a series of brain scans which have shown that the sight of something attractive triggers an instinct in humans that makes us reach out and touch what we find appealing. Often we don't even get to think about it until the object is in our hand.

Likewise, recent studies have begun to point out that certain colors can provoke very specific emotions in the viewer within a split second. If you look at a green object, for example, you will be able to experience a sudden surge of both creativity and motivation. Green is one of the most pleasant colors. Perhaps that is why green glasses are among the most popular collectibles.

Beautiful things have the ability to make us happy. Even if we are not always aware of it. Many of us own at least one very special drinking glass. The finest of them combine functionality and aesthetics in the most beautiful way - and therefore the widespread love of glass is not difficult to understand.
