Hvorfor elsker vi glas?

Why do we love glass?

My love for porcelain and glass is an old one. I’ve spent most of my adult life on these things, which shows in my little store in Store Kongensgade.

My fascination with drinking glasses in particular is not a rarity. Many of us love glasses. But why exactly is that? What gives glass the ability to make a hardly materialistic person spend a lot of money on containers for liquor, water og wine?

We love glasses, because we are attracted to beautiful things in general. Be that a painting, a grand landscape, a decanter or something else in entirely, often we will find ourselves being physically moved by the things, we find beautiful. This explains why you can’t keep your hands to yourself in a store like mine. Recently scientists have done a number of brain scans, that all suggest, that the sight of something attractive triggers something in humans, that make us reach out and touch whatever it is, that we find appealing. Most of the time we won’t even notice it, until the object is in our hands.

Some examinations also point out, that certain colors have the ability to provoke strong feelings in the person, who’s exposed to the color. If you look at a green object, you will most likely feel a boost of motivation and creativity. Green is one of the most pleasant colors. This might account for the popularity of green drinking glasses amongst collectors.

Beautiful things make us happy. Even if we don’t know it. Many of us own at least one very special drinking glass. The finest ones combine functionality and aesthetics – and because of this it’s not hard to understand, why we love drinking glasses.
