Thorvaldsen "Night" plate
Diameter 14.5 cm.
Stamped Exclusive Bing & Grondahl.

The plate is made of bisque, unglazed porcelain.
The plate was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen as part of a set, where the counterpart is "Day". The set became some of Thorvaldsen's most popular plates. Each one symbolizes the two parts of the day, and together they symbolize the day as a whole. "Night" flies passively across the sky with closed eyes, like the children in her arms. The animal of the night, an owl, is also seen on the plate.
