L. Hjorth's factory on Bornholm was founded in 1859 and still exists, run by the same family. The bust was designed in the 1890s by Rasmus Bøgebjerg, who was associated with the factory for a number of years in the late 1800s. Rasmus Bøgebjerg has, among other things, made a portrait bust of Herman Bang in 1882 and a statue of NFS Grundtvig in 1903.
