Pepita glass with flared foot from Holmegaard Glasværk
Height 6.7 cm.
The model was first shown in the 1867 catalogue and was in production until 1950. This glass is in a special green colour and must be from the 1940s. Pepita de Oliva was a Spanish ballet dancer who visited Copenhagen in 1858 and caused a great stir. It is possible that the Copenhagen bourgeoisie was fascinated by her southern nature, the fact that she was a woman and travelled around Europe and of course not least her skills as a ballet dancer.
Several Danish glassworks produced items named after her, including pocket watch cases with her inside as a figure and these egg-shaped liqueur or schnapps glasses.
