Zoé Talon du Cayla was the mistress of Louis XVIII of France. She lived from 1785-1852 and was titled Countess of Cayla.
The portrait depicts her as Demeter, the Greek goddess of grain and protector of agriculture. The reverse bears her name.
The picture is painted on bone, has an old drying crack and is set in a patinated brass frame. The glass is the original curved one, which has some marks in the glass itself.
