Allan Schmidt visited Kähler in 1961 when he was given a commission for the atrium courtyard of Horsens Central Library. Before 1961, Allan Schmidt had never worked with ceramics, but quickly became interested in the material and became a frequent visitor in the 1960s.
Schmidt's production never became large, the factory did not have a sales apparatus that could sell Schmidt's goods. Kähler closed the production in 1974, so Allan Schmidt's production is one of the factory's last major ventures.
