Christian d. 8 red wine glasses
Height 15.5 cm.
Christian d. 8 was produced at the major Danish glassworks, Holmegaard, Kastrup and Fyens Glasværk from the mid-19th century until the 1940s, when it was discontinued. It is also produced in a smooth version, called Berlinois.
This glass has also been produced at Holmegaard, Kastrup and Fyens Glassworks. Christian d. 8 is one of the most extensive Danish glass series - it is produced in 18 different sizes, from large porter glasses to rare schnapps flutes.
Today, it is impossible to distinguish the glass from one another. It is named after the last absolute Danish king, Christian VIII, who reigned from 1839 to 1848, when Denmark transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a democracy.
