    Height 18.5 cm.

Antique coffee pot from Royal Copenhagen. The pot is signed 2, for J. Chr. Hansen who was a blue painter from 1803 to 1862 with a short break in 1812-1815.

The very grey porcelain is due to difficulties in supplying kaolin from France, due to the Napoleonic Wars that raged in Europe from 1803 to 1815. During this period, Royal Copenhagen had to use kaolin from Bornholm, which was not nearly as pure as the French. This period is referred to as the "2nd Bornholm period".

The first was at the beginning of the factory's life. After 1815, the factory was able to purify the Bornholm kaolin sufficiently to be able to use it instead of the French kaolin that they were offered in 1817.

The jug must therefore date from the period 1815, when Hansen was rehired, to a very short time after which the factory achieved satisfactory results in purifying kaolin.

The jug is in good condition, has a chip on the spout and a lot of glaze defects in the flowers on one side. The small metal cap is missing on the lid, otherwise it is in perfect condition.
