Blue Flower is one of Royal Copenhagen's oldest sets, from 1779. It was later given the set number 10. Royal Copenhagen did not begin this practice of marking until 1890. Until then, the porcelain had only been stamped with waves and the painter's signature. Throughout the 1860s-1880s, Denmark had become a more national and wealthy country, due to the industrial revolution and the cession of the duchies in 1864, so more people bought Danish rather than imported goods, due to the new fortunes that arose in these years. This led to the need for Royal Copenhagen to mark their goods with model numbers, as customers no longer bought a whole set at once, but bought smaller portions and therefore needed to be able to identify sizes when they next bought.

All eight plates were painted by Anthon Larsen, who was employed as a blue painter in the period from December 17, 1853 to September 8, 1877.
