Thorvaldsen "Night" plate
Diameter 15 cm.
Stamped Eneret and Royal Copenhagen's 3 waves from the period 1880-1890. 1st grade. The plate is in bisque, unglazed porcelain. The plate was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen as part of a set, where the counterpart is "Day". The set became some of Thorvaldsen's most popular plates. Each one symbolizes the two parts of the day, and together they symbolize the day as a whole. "Night" flies passively across the sky with closed eyes, just like the children in her arms. The animal of the night, an owl, is also seen on the plate.
