Pepita glass from Danish glass factory
Height 6.5 cm.
Pepita glass made at a Danish glassworks in the 1860s.
Both glasses have a hollow base and are thick. Pepita de Oliva was a Spanish ballet dancer who visited Copenhagen in 1858 and caused a great stir. It is possible that the Copenhagen bourgeoisie was fascinated by her southern nature, the fact that she was a woman and traveled around Europe and of course not least her skills as a ballet dancer. Several Danish glassworks produced products named after her, including pocket watches with her inside as a figure and these egg-shaped liqueur or schnapps glasses.
