Large Berlinois red wine glass
Height 16.5-17 cm.
The glass is also called a porter glass. Berlinois was produced at the major Danish glassworks, Holmegaard, Kastrup and Fyens Glasværk from the late 1800s until the 1940s, when it was discontinued. Today it is impossible to distinguish the glassworks' glasses from each other. Up to 16 different sizes of this glass have been produced, from schnapps to champagne flutes. Berlinois is the uncut version of Christian d. 8 and, unlike Christian d. 8, was not produced for private use, but for use in inns and taverns. It is therefore a rare glass today, despite the large number produced. The glasses have naturally been broken.
