English decanter with lock

Stamped JGB EEC for John George Betjemann & Ernest Edward Betjemann, Lion for sterling silver, Panther for London and B for the year 1897.

The decanter is finely ground with a diamond cut, intersecting lines, serrations on the corners and a many-pointed star below.

We have never seen a carafe with a lock before. Its stopper is turned into place, clicked into the lock which has its original key.
