Beskrivelse

Diameter 15.5 cm.

Decoration number 2322/10522.

2nd sorting. The stamps show that these are from 1923-1928.

Art Nouveau was the dominant style from about 1900 to 1920. The period was characterized by inspiration from the elements of nature, animals and plant life. The style got its name from the Parisian shop L'art Nouveau, which opened in 1868 and sold imported Japanese porcelain. During this period, Royal Copenhagen developed the underglaze decoration we know today. Up until 1900, the much more expensive overglaze had been dominant, but this technique did not suit the new style with its subdued colors, shadow effects and animal and plant life. By painting the underglaze, the number of possible colors was limited but they were made to flow better and more naturally together. Most importantly, the colors burned together.
