KPM stands for Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n \u003cp\u003eKPM was founded in 1751 by Wilhelm Caspar Wegely and in 1763 was taken over by Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, giving it its royal name, a name the factory retained until 1918 when the German monarchy was abolished and the factory changed its name to Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur. The factory was rebuilt after World War II and still produces porcelain outside Berlin today.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e During World War I, the factory stamped a number of its wares with the German Iron Cross as a sign of patriotism and support for the war.
